Around 1870 Polish physicians began to send their consumptive financially secure patients to Zakopane rather than to Davos so that the clear mountain air of the high Tatras would rid their lungs of the dark shadows. Thereafter this until then inaccessible mountain village quickly turned into a cultural center - especially since artists and intellectuals from Krakow founded a artist colony here in the last decades of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy. On a day-long trip to Zakopane (approx. 2 hours from Krakow) you will be able to take the cable car to the Kasprowy Wierch, which is the starting point of a hiking path located at a height of almost 2000 meters - it is advisable to bring warm clothing. From there you will descend to a traditional Polish restaurant where you will have lunch. The guide will take you to the city and will show you the most important points of interest. In the afternoon you will have time to explore the town of Zakopane for yourself. Alternatively you can choose to combine the trip to Zakopane with a two-hour rafting trip on the Dunajec - a guaranteed adventure. The route on the Dunajec will take you though the breakthrough of the river and through the impressive nature of the Pieniny national park...>>>
