The tour presents the most interesting former and existing monasteries of Lviv: the monasteries of the Bernardins, Dominicans, Benedicts, Barefooted Carmelitans and others. More: The Bernardin Monastery encompasses the monastery buildings, bell tower, fortification wall, the the Church of Saint Andrew (1600-1630) and the pretty columns of the Rotunda of the Well. The defensive walls of the monastery once belonged to the city fortifications. The center of the Dominican monastery is the Church of Dominicans (1749-1764). The Dominican Church is an imposing building in Baroque style that is adorned by 18 unique wood carved sculptures honouring the order of the Dominicans. Part of the complex is the monastery building (16th to 18th century) and the bell tower. Today, the monastery houses the Museum for Religious History. The Dominican Church is still used today by the Uniate Church. The tour presents several other monasteries, as the Monastery of the Benedicts and the Monastery of the Barefooted Carmelitans. |
