Tour of the Jewish Quarter Josefov
and Visit to the Grave of Kafka

Jewish life and culture has edged itself deeply into the past and present face of the city. Since the ninth century Jewish merchants have lived in and been active in the city and a Jewish community has existed here at least since the 12 th century. On this tour you will visit one of the oldest Synagogues in Europe (approx. 1270) where you will be able to marvel at the interior of the gothic Old New Synagogue. You will visit the grave of the Rabbi Loew, who, according to legend, created a Golem to protect the Jews of the Prague ghetto. His grave is in the Olsanské, the old Jewish cemetery that contains over ten thousand grave stones. The extended tour will then take you by metro to the new Jewish Cemetery, which dates back to 1890. Between an oil factory owner and a professor one can find probably one of the most famous persons of the 20 th century that comes from Prague: Franz Kafka.
